We live in a time when there are more things to do than hours in a day. Things to do at work, with the kids, with your spouse - our daily responsibilities demand so much of our limited time. Do you feel like you may never accomplish everything? Did you used to dream of so much more, but now you can barely handle whats on your plate? If that sounds like you, dont worry, because that was me once too. I remember days when I would wake up with so much on my mind, I barely had time to brush my teeth before diving into my responsibilities. But this scatter-brained and often stressed out method wasnt effective. Why you ask? Because I wasnt giving myself the time to focus, my brain was not working to the best of its ability. In fact, I was always on over-drive and quickly running out of batteries.
Sure I could pretend to have it together and still produce mediocre work, but deep down, I felt incomplete. I felt like the task was completed but nothing was accomplished. There were so many more things circling through my mind, it was impossible to feel proud of my work when there were hundreds of other things to finish. My clientele was growing and so was my family. My wife needed more of my time but so did my company. I thought my responsibilities were getting too large for one man, like I was a spinning wheel, moving, but only in a circle, finding myself in the same place every time.
I realized I needed help to take back control of my life, so I sought out a mentor. I found a life coach who was also a multi-millionaire, and believe me, he charged a lot. But his methods were unique and effective; he believed all of lifes problems were questions waiting to be answered. In order to solve my problems, I had to figure out the solution to the question.
His wisdom may sound too simple, so simple its confusing. So let me share some of his concrete advice with you: the secret to prioritizing and getting your life under control lies in how much time you dedicate to yourself and how you spend your mornings. Revitalizing your morning routine will help channel your energy and focus your mind.
Follow these basic steps to help you get things done and improve your morning routine:
- End each day by making a written agenda for the following day. Make it your last task before leaving the office or workplace. This process will help you empty your brain each day and free up space for creativity. Write down everything you need to get done, from your professional to your personal life. Organize this To-Do List by category: assignments at work, family obligations, martial duties, etc. Then switch your focus from the workload youre anticipating to the result youd like to have for each task. For example, if youd like to help your child with something in their life, focus on how that would make him or her feel, and how youll feel when you see them that way.
- Remember, in order for you to be effective, you need to be functioning at your fullest capacity. If youre tired, confused or stressed out, you wont produce the best results for you or your company. Do your work with pride and your full attention, its about quality, not quantity.
- In order to make each day productive, you need to make each morning sacred by creating your own morning ritual. Morning rituals are activities that focus on your personal self-development for 1-2 hours each day. It could be something like stretching, walking, yoga, dancing, meditation, smiling at the sun it depends on you! Making time for yourself and your ritual each morning will maximize your productivity in all aspects of your life. But remember, your morning ritual should not go on your written agenda! Your rituals are the things you want your mind, body, and soul to remember.
